Giving Priorities

Community Access

Help our residents connect to the wider community

We all have places to be, but we don’t all have the transportation that we need to get there. That’s why Elmwood operates a fleet of accessible vehicles to help get residents to medical appointments, Day Programs, employment, recreational opportunities and community events. Despite the importance of these vehicles, the capital funding to purchase them is not provided by the government. Help us equip each community home with an accessible vehicle that ensures safety, independence, and enhanced access.

Community Inclusion

Help reduce isolation, and support residents’ health and wellbeing

Our recreational programming makes a world of difference to our residents, who face barriers to participating in city events and activities . A little goes a long way when it comes to improving quality of life. Our staff coordinates with volunteers and community experts to lead in-house activities such as art club, chair yoga, literacy club, skill development based classes, as well as taking residents to community activities such as bowling leagues, sporting events and City festivals.

Enhanced Health & Wellness

Improve mental and physical health

Our Health & Wellness Team and Disability Support Professionals Team provide exceptional care, but needs are high and we can do more to foster resident well-being. We work diligently in partnership with individuals, family members, team members and other partners to ensure residents have access to the equipment and therapies they need. With donor support, we are able to provide next-level sensory regulating support and consistent care for chronic conditions.

Quality Accessible Homes

Help transform a house into a home

At Elmwood, we want to see residents thrive, not just survive. That includes highlighting the gaps in maintenance funding for resident homes as we work hard to make them comfortable spaces to live. Simple things like raised beds for accessible gardening, patio furniture, or household entertainment fall outside of what is funded for home maintenance and upkeep. We see so much potential in creating quality, life-giving homes for our residents that give them a sense of pride. We aim to create homes that are inviting, well-kept, and adapted to the needs of the people who live there.
